Pediatric Electrophysiology

Kosair Children's Hospital is home to Kentucky's only electrophysiology laboratory dedicated to children. Electrophysiology is the study of the heart's electrical system, which is responsible for coordinating all heartbeats. When working correctly, the electrical system makes the heart efficient by ensuring that all of the heart's chambers work well together and that the heart rate is adjusted for age and activity. Specially trained physicians, nurses and technicians use the laboratory's state-of-the art equipment to perform procedures that can evaluate, treat and often cure many heart rhythm disturbances in children.

These procedures include:

  • Electrophysiology studies
  • Three-dimensional mapping
  • Ablations
  • Implantation of arrhythmia devices
