Laura K. Jacks M.D.
Laura K. Jacks, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in pediatric orthopaedics. Dr. Jacks earned her medical degree from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and completed a general orthopaedic surgery residency at University of South Carolina’s Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Dr. Jacks completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery and became involved with gait analysis and treatment of cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders at the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Greenville, S.C.
In addition to offering a full range of pediatric orthopaedic care for children, Dr. Jacks has special interests in cerebral palsy and neuromuscular diseases; congenital conditions, such as dislocated hip, clubfoot, arthrogryposis and other malformations; and pediatric trauma. Dr. Jacks’ mission is focused on helping children reach maximum function possible, regardless of the obstacles they face.
Dr. Jacks uses a team approach to caring for patients with complex orthopaedic conditions. Physicians and therapists work together and learn from one another, as well as from the patient, while providing cohesive, integrated care in as few patient visits as possible.
Dr. Jacks is the medical director and avid supporter of the Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies in Louisville, and provides consultative services through the Muscular Dystrophy Association. To reach as many children in need of care as possible, Dr. Jacks and her partners also provide services through the Kentucky Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs.
Away from the office Dr. Jacks spends as much time as she can with her husband and son. They enjoy sports, outdoor activities and traveling in their RV. They are avid football fans and like to tailgate and watch U of L games at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, as well as travel to other teams’ games throughout the season. Although football is her favorite, Jacks and her family also enjoy other sports, such as NASCAR.
