Intoeing
Have you noticed that your toddler stumbles or trips because a toe catches on the opposite heel? Or that your toddler’s feet are turned in, rather than straight, when he or she walks or runs? Although your child may not be in pain, this could mean that he or she has a common condition known as intoeing.
Intoeing can occur in children of all ages and for various reasons or no reason at all. There usually is no way to prevent intoeing, however some conditions can cause it. The most common conditions that cause intoeing are curved foot, twisted shin and twisted thigh bone.
While intoeing usually will correct itself without the need for casts, braces, surgery or other special intoeing treatment, it’s important to have intoeing evaluated by a pediatric orthopaedic specialist so that it does not permanently affect a child’s gait, especially if the child is experiencing pain, swelling or a limp.
