Nursing Care
Kosair Children's Hospital nurses are unique, talented, professional men and women who are committed to caring for sick and injured children and their families. Their constant focus is on providing quality care, improving patient outcomes and ensuring patient and family satisfaction. In 2007, Kosair Children's Hospital was recognized for excellence in nursing care with Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Nurses are responsible and accountable for the coordination and provision of patient care that is consistent with professional standards and reflects current best practices. Nurses are encouraged and supported in continuing their education beyond the basic level to enrich their knowledge and experience, and expand their critical thinking. Children in our region directly benefit by having a more knowledgeable and skilled health care team caring for them.
Nurses provide essential services to patients and families, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and coordination of care and services provided by other members of the care team. Nurses practice Kristen Swanson’s Theory of Caring, which also is incorporated into their Nursing Professional Practice Model. The family-centered approach at Kosair Children's Hospital is designed to include families in making the best possible health care decisions for children in their care.
